Sacred in the Ordinary: Deer in the Quiet

I am tempted to search for the extraordinary. I catch myself longing for the incredible. I fight the urge to notice the spectacular. In doing so, I risk missing the most extraordinary, incredible and spectacular of all... the sacred in the ordinary.

My Moment...

It was still dark outside. The coffee had been made and I was pouring a cup preparing for a bit of quiet time before the day started.

I glanced out of my kitchen window and there stood two deer just on the other side. My heart was instantly warmed at the sight and I was delighted by their surprise presence.

What a beautiful way to begin a time of quiet and start my day!

What ordinary moment became sacred to you this week?

That is a lovely beginning to your day, Donnetta. For me, I think it's whenever I look at the growing things around me that give me just a glimpse into God's creativity. When I watch the Planet Earth DVD series and giggle at the silly dance birds of paradise do, I marvel again.

  2. Aloha Donnetta! Thanks for posting a comment on my blog. I was thrilled! I've very much enjoyed your posts. I love meeting new kindred spirits. I guess it's easy with Jesus as our common bond.
We don't have deer where I live, but yesterday I looked out the window (I was schooling my 9 year old son, Andrew) and we both saw a beautiful red cardinal hopping around in our garden. Everything stoppped as we watched this amazing creature. Those truly are kisses from God! Thanks for sharing yours!

  4. 10 years ago I lived at the end of a 50 acre park. The deer were always in our backyard. I loved sitting on my deck with coffee in hand watching the deer. How lucky you are Donnetta. PS. I posted my own Sacred in the Ordinary. Better late than never.
