A Quiet Spirit... God's Diamonds

Isaiah 30:15: “In quietness and in trust/ confidence shall be your strength.”

It has taken me awhile to grasp what these words mean. I'm not even sure I completely understand all of the implications of this simple but profound sentence.

Strength does not come from reading books. It is not in doing new things. It is not in ministry, service, or outreach. No, first I must be quiet. I must settle myself before my loving Heavenly Father and learn from Him, learn of Him...learn Him.

I must stop the doing, stop the busyness, stop the noise, the demands, the tasks… just STOP and be quiet. I need to bask in His presence and in His love.

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV) “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

He will quiet me! The chaos, the busyness, the demands… His love will quiet that. But, I have to take the time to let Him "love" me.

I must also trust and be confident. Trust that He has plans for me, not to harm me but to give me a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) Trust that He works all things together for good to those that love Him. (Romans 8:28)

I must be confident that He is who He says He is. Be confident that each and every promise in His word is true… and it is for me! It is for US!

So, it is in quietness and confidence/ trust that I find strength to get through the tasks and the situations at hand.

I long to learn how to be quiet. How to REALLY be quiet. To be so in tune with Him that my mind and thoughts are in Him alone.

To be so absorbed in His presence throughout my day that my whole being radiates quietness and peace to those around me.

It is truly a large task that I take on every day. One that I long to improve on, to get better at, to understand more fully, to be reflected in my life.

I Peter 3: 3a-4 (NIV) “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

A quiet spirit is of great worth in God’s sight!?! Now that’s what I want to present to Him! Something He finds worthy and valuable. So much of “life” is nothing in the sight of God.

A quiet spirit… now there’s something to pursue hard after!

A quiet spirit... God's diamonds!

  1. I think we are on the same wavelength here. Quietness and sitting at the feet of Jesus. :)

  2. What a beautiful post Donnetta - I love the progression of the pictures.
I've been thinking along these lines too and trying to surround myself with more times of quiet.
I wonder, is it possible to have a quiet spirit in the midst of chaos? I think I would like to be so centered in Him that I could have a quiet spirit no matter what is going on around me. I have a long way to go on that one.

  5. Maybe that is why I feel I have more strength and peace during the days I have my "quiet time." Beautiful. And Zephaniah 3:17 is my life verse.
